Each year, North Shore takes a moment to offer a special thanks to our unit and district leaders, Scouts, and volunteers for helping to deliver great Scouting programs to youth. There are three special awards with which we honor those who stand out as worthy of special recognition. These are:

Each year the North Shore District honors its outstanding volunteers from within its units with the Northern Star award.  Nominations for this award can come from anyone in the unit. The honorees are the unit leaders, committee members, and parents/guardians who have gone above and beyond for the unit.

The award is a certificate with a starry night background. The photo we used last year was taken on a troop campout by Rick Grinstead. Do you have a starry night photo you would like for us to consider for this year’s Northern Star Awards? Please send your submissions to District Commissioner, James Bartley, at commissioner@northshoredistrict.org  along with a note giving permission for the district to use the photo.

The Silver Squirrel Award recognizes Scout leaders, units and supporters for exceptional service to young people. Inspired by such legendary Scouting honors as the Silver Buffalo, Silver Antelope and Silver Beaver Awards, this award is unique to North Shore District. Recipients receive a silver squirrel pendant suspended from a grosgrain ribbon of dark blue and white, the color of the District Award of Merit.

Candidates for this award must be nominated by another scouter (self-nomination disqualifies the candidate).

We also recognize units and individual for outstanding fundraising efforts that allow us to provide a quality program at the council, district, and unit levels:

Top Popcorn Units

The North Shore District recognizes our top-selling units each year for their contribution to the Scouting program in the Capitol Area Council and the North Shore District.

Top Popcorn Sellers

Selling Trail’s End popcorn teaches Scouts about setting goals and working hard to achieve them. It helps them develop positive character traits and leadership skills as well as working in a team. And it gives them a chance to build confidence through public speaking. These are lessons that can be applied well beyond Scouting and last a lifetime.

The North Shore District recognizes our top-selling Scouts for their contributions to funding Scouting programs in the Capitol Area Council and the our district.

We also occasionally induct the best of us all into the North Shore District Volunteer Hall of Fame.

North Shore District Volunteer Hall of Fame

The distinguished members of the District Volunteer Hall of Fame are Scouters from the North Shore District who have contributed significantly to the success of our Scouting programs over many years. These are Scouters who are in it for the long haul and whose legacies continue to inspire volunteers across the district today.

We welcome your nominations for the North Shore District Volunteer Hall of Fame Just send an email to us at commissioner@northshoredistrict.org and tell us about their long-standing commitment to Scouting and how they have made a lasting impact on the lives in their community.
